We have three great Virtual PD sessions set over the next week. All three circle the same question: “where does the money actually come from?”
All About Trump Accounts Wednesday, October 14, 3:00 pm PST
This is a topic most of us are still learning, and it’s changing quickly, you may not have even taught it (yet). Accounts are tax-advantaged savings accounts for children, and the session covers how they work: who qualifies for the $1,000 federal seed deposit, what the annual contribution limits are, how the money gets invested, and what supporters and critics each say about them. You will also leave with ways to connect the accounts to saving, investing, and compound growth lessons you already teach.
NGPF Speaker Series: The Fed in Your Classroom Thursday, October 15, 4:00 pm PST
The Federal Reserve has been building K-12 financial education resources for decades, and almost none of it costs anything. Amanda Geiger, Senior Economic Education Specialist at the St. Louis Fed, will walk through what belongs in your course, including the Financial Feud game, the It's Your Paycheck modules, infographic posters, self-paced PD with Credly badges, and FRED data.
Major Savings: 5 Favorite Paying for College Unit ResourcesMonday, October 19, 3:00 pm PST
College is one of the largest financial decisions your students will make, and many of them will make it before they understand the price tag. This session digs into five favorite resources from NGPF's Paying for College unit, which is timely if your seniors are in the thick of applications right now.
We’d of course love to see you at all three PD sessions, but understand this is a busy time of year. I encourage you to attend a session that works with your schedule, but also encourage you to attend a session that you think will sharpen your teacher toolkit. See you at a PD soon!
